It is no longer news that one of the presidential aspirants and former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as well as withdrawn from the presidential race.
A letter dated 24th May, 2022 and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, titled ‘Resignation From Peoples Democratic and Withdrawal From the Presidential Contest’, Obi said he was happy to have contributed to the nation-building efforts of the country through the PDP.
However, it is not clear whether Peter Obi will continue his presidential race in another party, but sources said his resignation may not be unconnected with the disposition of PDP leadership’s refusal to zone the presidential race to South East.
Obi in his letter, cited what he described as “recent development” in his party which he said has made him reconsider his stand with the PDP.
The letter partly read, “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha LGA, Anambra, effective Friday, May 20, 2022.
“Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP Presidential Primaries.

“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.
“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.
“I wish to thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership. I wish you well and best of luck in the service of country.”
