Finally residents, visitors and other road users who ply the Lekki route can now heave a sigh of relief knowing that their days of torturous road traffic are numbered as the Lagos State Government begins construction of the Lekki Regional Road.

Though widely acknowledged as a development worthy of accolades by many, there appear to be a few cynics who believe it is a white elephant project that is long overdue and deliberately begun at a time when it is calculated to fall into the elections period and as such serve as a campaign strategy to sway the votes in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming general elections slated for February 2023 after which it will most likely be abandoned. Considering that Eti-Osa has always been predominantly a PDP stronghold judging by past elections.
When completed, the 8.75km road project which is a brainchild of and being executed by the governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is expected to decongest traffic on the Lekki corridor while also serving as an alternative to the Eti-Osa/Epe Expressway.
The project being handled by Hitech Construction Company Ltd in a release by the Lagos State Government will comprise of a 8.75km of roads, 500m bridge, 251m interchange, 50m bicycle trails and an adjoining 500m road.
According to the statement, Lekki without an iota of doubt is poised to become the new economic hub cum nerve centre of Lagos state with the coming on board of facilities such as the Lekki FreeTrade Zone, Lekki Freeport, Dangote Petrochemical Plant, Dangote Refinery, Dangote Fertilizer Plant, Lekki Airport and other industrial, commercial developments and numerous enterprises concerns in the area.
While commuters groan under the weight of the long man hours wasted on the road daily while the groundwork for the flyover connecting Victoria Garden City to Admiralty Road is under construction, expectations are rife that in no distant time, the suffering will be thrashed in the dustbin of history.

The road which actually runs all the way from Epe is being constructed in phases to help alleviate the sufferings of commuters to the barest minimum. The first phase of the construction spanning the full stretch of Epe to Eleko junction is done with and work on the second phase from Eleko Junction is underway… in earnest!
Upon completion, asides easing flow of traffic and adding aesthetic to the area, the value of properties within the vicinity is also expected to skyrocket even as SMEs are also projected to quadruple the volume of their businesses.
