Governor Hope Uzodimma last week signed the imo state electricity bill into law which empowers the state to take advantage of the removal of electricity from the exclusive list late last year by Immediate Past President Buhari, and venture into electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
Immediately after the enactment of the Imo State Electricity Law, Governor Hope Uzodimma got the President, Bola Tinubu to approve the takeover of the management and operations of the over 300MW(Net) Egbema Gas Powered Thermal Electricity Power Plant located in Mmahu Ohaji Egbema Imo State.

This power plant which by 2023 was 98% completed ranks 7th among power plants in Nigeria Delta Nigeria. Recall that early this year Governor Hope Uzodimma led a delegation of Imo State Government to Egypt to sign an MOU with some globally recognized players in the gas power generation industry.
Hence with this takeover, the government of Imo State ably led by Senator Hope Uzodimma can now bring in the electricity generation transmission and distribution foreign partners from Egypt and the middle east in a Public Private Partnership PPP arrangement that will see the efficient and effective operation of this power plant and other power plants for effective power supply in Imo State and beyond.
